Breastfeeding is the best way to feed your baby, but if you choose to feed your baby with infant formula, WIC provides iron-fortified formula.  By having only one company providing WIC with iron-fortified formulas, we are able to add more babies under one year of age who qualify for the WIC Program.  How can we do it?  WIC receives a refund each time you buy that formula with your WIC coupons or EBT card.  With the money that the WIC Program receives, WIC is able to add more moms and babies to the program.

Starting November 1, 2006, the formulas for Michigan WIC babies will be:

Enfamil LIPIL with Iron, Prosobee LIPIL Iron Fortified, Enfamil Lactofree LIPIL Iron Fortified, Enfamil Gentlease LIPIL, and Enfamil with Iron formulas are very similar to the other brands of infant formula that you can buy.  Ask your VIC nutritionist or nurse which of these Enfamil or Prosobee formulas would be the best for your baby.  Most babies will do well on infant formula as long as they are held and loved.
