In accordance with the recent recommendations from MDHHS for slowing the transmission of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in our community, the Sanilac County Health Department is implementing community mitigation strategies. These modifications to normal daily routines are necessary to slow the transmission of COVID-19 within our community.

These strategies include:

  • Avoid large gatherings

  • Cancel or postpone events where a large number of people gather such as fundraisers, meetings and conferences, sporting events, fish fries, church dinners, etc.

  • Stay at home if you are sick

  • Wash your hands and cover your coughs and sneezes

CDC is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and which has now been detected in 37 locations internationally, including cases in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”).

On January 30, 2020, the International Health Regulations Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a “public health emergency of international concern” (PHEIC). On January 31, 2020, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex M. Azar II declared a public health emergency (PHE) for the United States to aid the nation’s healthcare community in responding to COVID-19.

The best way Michiganders can stay healthy is to wash their hands often with soap and water, cover their coughs and sneezes, stay away from people who are sick and stay home if they are not feeling well.
